About this movement

Something is terribly amiss in India. Cruelty against animals is increasingly being normalised and the people who commit these acts are walking free because of weak laws and policies.

The late-May 2020 incident involving a pregnant elephant in Kerala, who fell prey to a fruit deliberately stuffed with explosives, brought this reality to light for many in India. Elephants aren't the only victims of such cruel acts. Street dogs, wild boars, cows, and many other animals are left grievously injured or dead. But there's also something powerful unfolding in India. Millions of people are expressing their anguish, their outrage and are raising their voices seeking justice for these voiceless animals. This is a first for an animal rights issue in India's recent history. We can't let this collective outrage died out and be remembered as a "weekend-of-outrage". Keeping the momentum going is what will create public pressure and deliver justice in the truest sense.

This movement brings together everyone who believes in this mission. Not just by punishing culprits in individual cases but by ensuring that Indian laws protecting wildlife and other categories of animals are made tougher, government policies towards "vermin" are humanised, and solutions to minimise people-animal conflicts are activated in a timely manner.

The common citizens, experts, activists, celebrities and organisations unitedly fighting for a cruelty-free India believe one thing: We couldn't save the Kerala elephant, the wild boar, the cow, the puppies, but if we raise our voices together now we can save the next animal from meeting a similar fate.
